A support group is a group of people who meet on a regular basis to lend one another
support while dealing, or learning to cope, with a really tough life problem. Such problems
include medical or psychological illnesses, loss and grief issues, or other major life challenges.
The support groups I facilitate in my private practice all relate to Chemical Dependency and
Recovery. There are support groups for the individual suffering with chemical dependency
(alcoholism or other drug addiction), and support groups for the people who love them.
The groups are small, each allows up to seven participants. Groups will meet once weekly
for 75 minutes and, for the purpose of group cohesiveness, an initial agreement to participate for
12 weeks is requested. The groups will consist of sharing, listening, feedback, and education.
The fee is $35.00 per session, payable monthly (upon receipt of payment a fee slip will be provided
so those who have insurance coverage may file for direct reimbursement). At the end of the 12
weeks, participants may choose to continue on in the group for another 12 weeks, or, some may want
to continue benefiting from group support by utilizing the no-cost community support groups of AA,
NA, SOS, WFS, Al-Anon, Nar-Anon, CoDa, or ACA.
Assessment of interest, readiness, and match for appropriate group is essential to the group
process. Interested parties, please contact Janice Nardi, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
at 510-742-9018 to schedule a no-cost consultation and assessment.
